Has anyone been watching "THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH" on TV?
by Nathan Natas inexcellent miniseries!.
i especially love how they show that everything - everything - is the result of human action and human ambition.. "miracles" were contrived inventions of men foisted on the ignorant, they were not peepholes into the divine.
"saintly relics" were taken from the local boneyard under cover of darkness and then declared to be special.. loosie posted a thread recently about the dovout catholic boy who invited her daughter to church and also complimented the girl on her fine booty, telling her he wanted to be her first.

Loosie posted a thread recently about the dovout catholic boy who invited her daughter to church and also complimented the girl on her fine booty, telling her he wanted to be her first. Yes, a fine boy he is! Piety and lust, rolled up into a nice hypocritical package, like so many of his kind. He was offended when the girl told him she did not believe in god.
Have you been watching THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH? Do you love it?

GOOD FOR YOU XPeterX!
Remember that you do not owe an apology to anyone for your decisions - no one... well, ALMOST no one here will condemn you for the course you have chosen. The important thing is that you are CONSCIOUS and THINKING FOR YOURSELF.
I obtained a ministerial deferment from the draft during the Vietnam war. Looking back now, I really do feel that serving may have been a good thing for me personally. In my opinion, too many people focus on the possibility of dying as a consequence of military service. Some say it is a "waste." I think they choose to disregard the fact that each year millions of teenagers die or cripple themselves as a result of substance abuse or "jackass" stunts. Yet no one says these are "wastes."
Take care of yourself, and don't start thinking that by avoiding the military you have put one over on the grim reaper. I he comes for you, you're gone.
"Do as thou wilt is the law."

The Watchtower's doctrine of the "waters above the earth" can be found, as has been mentioned, in the book FROM PARADISE LOST TO PARADISE REGAINED (1958), and before that in the book CREATION (1927), and before that in the book THE WAY TO PARADISE (1924). It is also present in AID TO BIBLE UNDERSTANDING (1971).
It is important to realize that this is not a new idea that the "inspired" writers of The Watchtower received from a whispering angel. It is an old, old, old doctrine that probably goes back to early Judaism if not even earlier than that. (I will invoke the intellectual powers of our mighty LEOLAIA for substantiation or falsification of my statement.)
For an organization that keeps shouting "Babylon the Great has fallen!" the Watchtower certainly relies on a lot of Babylonish Protestant and even non-Christian "pagan" teachings.
They depend upon an ignorant and uninformed customer base to buy the crap they're selling. The truth will set you free.

ThirdWitness Wants To Destroy Captives of a Concept
by t33ap80c ini have had numerous conversations with thirdwitness.
it seems that one of his goals in life is to protect the world from me and my "captives of a concept.".
someone by the name "settingtherecordstraight" has posted many of thirdwitness comments on several webpages, including: .

Don, if your book was trivial and ineffective they wouldn't be expending so much energy in attempts to discredit it.
Let them advertise your book for you while you can be laughing all the way to the deprogramming center.
More power to you, my friend!

Some of us - like me, maybe - were just better at being phonies when we were facing a stranger.
Don't beat yourself up too much.

Shunned by the world, then by the JWs and then shunned by Theists, when does this end?
by cyberjesus inwhen i was a jw i always hide my jw status to people of the world because i was taught that we were hated by satan and his world.
and indeed in school i experienced being ostracized by my religious beliefs and everytime i had to take a stand not saluting the flag i was the object of ridicule.. then when i left the jw now i am shunned by my family by taking a firm posture on my beliefs or disbeliefs.
now i am ostracized by my own jw family because i dont go along their set of doctrines.. now that i have abandoned any religious belief altogether feel how most people who dont believe in a god are ostracized from the majority of the populations.

I understand where you're coming from, CJ. I'm an atheist, and I've found that the more I articulate my opinions, the less contact I have from those who once seemed very friendly. Like Tony Soprano's Mom said, "Boo Hoo, poor you!" (meaning me).
Actually, I understand it, I think.
I don't believe a spirit realm exists populated with any kind of "intelligent living things" whether they be gods, sons-of-god, angels, demons, or whatever. I call these figments "imaginary friends." I do not believe in an afterlife or reincarnation.
I can see how this must harsh the mellow of my believing friends. They think of calling me, maybe, and remember, "oh, yeah, Nate thinks I have imaginary friends. Does he think I'm STUPID? I'll call him later, maybe."
The problem is, both of us - my friend and I - are here now. In this "now," I try to be a nice guy. I'm kind and generous, I think. I'm not a freeloader or a moocher. I don't want special treatment, I just want to have and to be a friend.
Oh well. maybe in the next life. That's a joke, get it?

It is not without good reason that many people say, "Nature abhors a Verizon."
